Eczema : what to do ?

Some facts about eczema :
➡ Atopic dermatitis (AD) or eczema is a common chronic or relapsing dermatitis characterized by severe pruritus, occurring primarily in infants and children
➡ The disease is known to exacerbate in winter and improve in summer months
➡ External Factors that can trigger eczema are:
⓵ Physical factors like sweating, climate, warm surroundings, detergents and soap, synthetic or woollen fabrics, cigarette smoke
⓶ Psychological factors like stress
⓷ Food items (including tomato, orange and citrus fruits, juice from meat, fish)
⓸ Allergens such as house dust mite, animal hair, pollen, plants
🚨 How does it present :
🔥 Itch is the 1st symptom.
🔥 Dryness of the skin can almost always be found.
🔥 Water filled vesicles on affected areas with oozing of the lesions after scratching is typical of an acute episode.
🔥 The older long timer lesions would have more dryness and cracks on the affected area.

⓵ The simplest but the most difficult to treat is the dryness. So remember Moisturising your body repeated is the only way forward.
⓶ Use a mild soap or detergent if required.
③ Avoid hot water for bathing.
⓸ Avoid use of products with added colours and fragrances.
✅ Visit a Board certified dermatologist if you don’t experience relief with these measures as it will need medical help in the form of oral or topical steroids.
