What are Laser facials - Part 1 - PHOTOFACIAL
Medical-grade facials or medifacials are treatments performed under supervision of a medical skin expert (dermatologist) to treat particular skin conditions.
Medifacials are safe for all skin types. The facial is performed using certain devices and constituents like microdermabrasion, peels, photo rejuvenation, LED therapy, and microcurrents and a combination of these.
Unlike conventional salon based facials, medifacials are unique facials in a way that they are custom tailored according to your skin requirements after a Dermatologist has analysed your skin needs.
What is a Photofacial ?
Photofacial is a session performed using an IPL device. IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light – which is interchangeable with the term “photo facial”. It is often also referred to as a laser treatments because it essentially looks the same, but it’s not technically a laser–it’s a pulse of light, similar to a camera flash.
The light penetrates through to the lower layers of the skin, targeting oil producing glands, bacteria (helpful for acne) and pigmentation (helpful for dark spots, scarring, etc), without harming the top layer. The light is absorbed by the melanin–damaging only that specific lesion. Then the body naturally removes the damaged tissue (aka your dark spots) leaving behind more beautiful, even skin.
IPL PHOTOFACIAL BENEFITS:
- Reduced hyperpigmentation, age spots, and sun spots due to photodamage
- Reduced acne and acne scars
- Instant skin Lift with increased definition of cheek bones and jawline contour.
- Reduced facial redness and open pores.
- Clear uniform skin color.

How is it done ?
After cleaning your face and putting your protective eye goggles A cool gel will be applied to the area being treated, and the treatment will consist of a series of little pulses of light–again, like a camera is being flashed.
Does it hurt ?
It definitely doesn’t feel like a salon facial with a relaxing massage - but instead you may feel slightly warm and some may even experience a slight prick like sensation on bony areas. Overall it is an extremely comfortable experience for even the first timers.
"It feels like a hot rubber band snap–but it’s over very quickly. To me, it’s not as bad as say, a Brazilian wax and getting ripped over and over again! “- As reviewed by the golden girl website.
How often should it be done ?
When planned as a treatment with corrective outcomes IPL treatments are recommended weekly for 4-6 sessions .However for facial rejuvenation and for maintenance Photofacial sessions can be spaced at 15-30 day intervals.
4 Reasons why you should say yes to photofacials :
- NO Down Time
- Instant results that keep getting better with time
- No special aftercare except sun protection.
- Safe even for sensitive skin types.
How much does a photofacial cost ?

On an average if you choose to get it done from a reputed dermato-cosmetic Clinic in thane with a board certified dermatologist attending you and without any quality compromise you will pay around 4000-5000 rupees per session. There are always going to be cheaper options but our expert Dr Sonam warns against cost cutting at the expense of quality compromise.
